Plastic or metal shelving

To maximize floor space by getting clutter off the floor, buy easily assembled plastic or metal shelving at a home improvement store, and use it to store the assorted boxes and bins that have been taking up valuable floor space.

Magnets

You can use magnets to attach small tools to metal shelves for easy access.

Plastic storage bins

Stock those shelves with these to hold all sorts of things that have made their way to the garage. Be sure to label each bin so you know what’s in them.

Bicycle hooks, bungee cords and chains

An easy fix for hoses and extension cords lying around is bicycle hooks screwed into the wall. Coil each of them and use bungee cords to hang them from the hooks. Or, you could use lengths of 1-inch chain instead of the bungee cords to hang hoses and extension cords.

If you or your kids ride bikes, you can save valuable floor space by also using hooks to hang your bicycles from the ceiling.

Pegboard

Pegboard makes it easy to organize and maximize the square footage in your garage. Use it, along with a variety of hooks and baskets, to hold paint supplies and small tools for easy access.
