Fall weather has finally started appearing around the Chicagoland area, which means trees will slowly begin to change colors over the next few weeks. For homeowners, this also means it’s time to break out the leaf blower and rakes, in an attempt to clean up fallen leaves before they rot.
One area of your home that you might not think about cleaning, or want to think about cleaning, is the roof of your garage. Regardless of if you have a slanted or flat roof garage, it’s a tedious and risky process since you’ll be several feet above the ground. Cleaning off your roof this Fall, however, means you’ll be able to keep your garage roof’s gutters clean and clear and keep any critters from burrowing up there during the cold weather marks.

- Wear Closed – Toed Shoes With Great Traction – One of the major risks that comes with cleaning a roof is the possibility of falling. To minimize the risk of this happening, please ensure you’re wearing closed-toed shoes that have a great grip, or traction, on the bottom of each shoe.
- Invest In A Leaf Blower – Rather than gathering leaves with a rake or by hand, a leaf blower will be able to simply clear the leaves off of your garage roof and gutters. This is ideal for a flat roof garage, where you will be able to walk around and simply blow the leaves off.
- For A Slanted Roof, Find A Roof Rake – This device will not only save you a trip up a ladder, but it can also make clearing debris from your roof a lot safer. Make sure you find an adjustable roof rake for leaves, so you don’t have to worry about breaking out the ladder nor ask your neighbor to hold it for you. An adjustable roof rake is also a more cost effective option to clean off your roof.
